Primary Responsibilities

  • Reviews, analyzes, configures, and supports system architectures for Health Information Exchange
    • Systems such as electronic medical records and other health information systems used for registration, scheduling, clinical data repository, billing and research
    • Configures and supports Cerner ESO outbound message generation
  • Analyzes data transmitted within HL7 segments, fields, components, and sub-components
  • Performs interface integration testing with clients according to test plans
  • Performs programming to insert, query, update, and delete information in a relational database management program
  • Designs custom programming solutions to assist with data storage/transmission and internal workflows
  • Leads large scale projects within multiple functional departments
  • Trains and mentors other team members through both formal and informal methods
  • Participates in on-call rotation
  • Other duties as assigned

Under immediate supervision, generally relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.  Primary job functions occasionally require exercising independent judgment.



  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science or equivalent knowledge and skills obtained through a combination of education, training, and experience is desired



  • 4 years + of experience in the Healthcare IT field or in a related area is preferred
  • Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within Healthcare IT and/or Health Information Exchange
  • Working knowledge of various operating systems such as Windows, Linux, VMS and AIX
  • Experience in one or more of the following languages; SQL, MSQL, Cerner CCL, Java Script
  • Previous experience in health care application integration and knowledge of healthcare messaging standards such as HL7, X12, DICOM, networks, transports, and TCP/IP is required
  • Experience/knowledge of system architecture, data structures, database concepts, application tailoring tools, commands, system utilities, and report writing tools
